A highlight of Sister's life involved 11 years spent in the Zana Valley, Peru where she immersed herself in parish life and outreach to the poor. Following her return to Canada, she continued her connection with Peru as an active member of the Heart Links, Peru Canada Project. Later, in response to Hurricane Mitch, Sister travelled to Nicaragua, as a supportive compassionate presence. Sister Marie Celine will be remembered as a fine artist, devoted teacher, zealous missionary, and faith-filled Sister of St. Joseph. Irene Dorothy Marie-Louise was born in Windsor Ontario on February 13, 1928, and joined the Sisters of St. Joseph on August 25, 1946, at Sacred Heart Convent, London.

Sister's initial ministries were at St. Joseph's Hospital, London as cafeteria supervisor and as floor supervisor at St. Peter's Seminary. In 1953, her talent and passion for the arts resulted in achieving a degree in fine arts. This prepared her for the next 20 years teaching art at Mount St. Joseph Academy in London. Upon her return to Ontario in 1978, she was parish assistant at St. Michael's Parish, Leamington and then returned West to Killam/Daysland Alberta continuing in parish ministry.
